Dubai is much like any big metropolitan city with its fast pace and 24/7 buzz; it can be a little overwhelming, particularly if you’re new and you’re still finding your rhythm here. It’s all about finding your community, finding people with similar values, so here are a few things to try out – see what works for you and what makes this place feel like home.
Set in a cosy villa near the beach, this is one of the most chilled out places you will find in the city. You don’t have to be a surfer to enjoy the space – there’s a café to grab breakfast in, or do some work from, and a nice outdoor space for when the weather cools down. Rent a board and go surfing or paddle boarding, or catch a yoga class in the studio upstairs – just do your thing and make it your home from home.

We all love a good Hollywood Blockbuster, but it can also be great to change it up and try out something different, and this independent arthouse cinema is perfect for something a little more unique. Working in partnership with Alserkal Avenue, expect films from across the globe, through the decades – unearthing unexpected talent and fostering the arts at the heart of Dubai’s creative centre.

A little retreat, or city getaway right on your doorstep, this multi-faith spiritual centre can be found nestled in Dubai’s Jumeriah district. With unassuming surroundings and a sense of lightness about the place, the house offers a range of soulful activities from fitness classes to meditation sessions.
Ras al Khaimah and Oman are so easy to get to – whether you choose a quick flight or road trip, they’re easy (not to mention beautiful) destinations for a simple weekend getaway. Dubai can be an intense city, so it’s nice to know that you can pack a bag and some outdoor gear and hit the road (ideally in a 4X4) for an outdoor adventure. The rustic approach will require a tent, for a camping weekend, or in true Dubai style you can take the glamping approach, or even book a dhow cruise and take to the water for the weekend. Here are some examples of where to go to:
