There are just some things that you can count on finding at Ikea. Affordable furniture with wondrously confusing directions that seem both over-complicated and not sufficiently explanatory, for starters. Looking for new dinner wear? Ikea! New curtains? Ikea! Seafood? Ikea! Wait, what?! Yup. Turns out there are items that Ikea carries that you would never guess lurk upon their shelves. Here are a few of the most surprising things we could find that Ikea has to offer.

As Is Items

If Ikea’s prices aren’t already low enough for you, you should totally check out the bargains in the As-Is section of the store. It features some real steals on products that might have minor imperfections, small scratches,  or even custom orders that were returned or never picked up. Some items might also be completely sound, but the inventory needs to go to make room for the next season of products. Who doesn’t love a bargain on a bargain?

Seriously Good Coffee

Ikea sells bags of ground coffee in a variety of different roasts. It comes from organic, sustainable farms. The farms are all small scale, family owned type operations or cooperatives in Peru, Mexico, and Honduras. The workers are also able to make a living wage from producing the beans which are pesticide and chemical free. It’s a coffee that tastes good and you can feel good about buying.

Items for Your Pet

Why should you be the only one with all the great Swedish minimalist furnishings? Get your pets in on the action with a variety of beds for your pampered pooch or beloved kitty. There’s also a cat house on legs which pretty much looks like a box on stilts. What cat wouldn’t be in heaven with that as a place to lay its head? You can also find other practical pet items like carriers, feeding bowls, and brushes.

Books

Ikea offers a variety of books for purchase. It’s another one of those items that you just don’t automatically equate with the home goods giant. Coffee table style books and home improvement tomes seem to mostly rule the shelves. However, there are also a good amount of children’s books available if you are in need of a quick gift to get any special young ones in the fam.

Plants

Looking to try your green thumb, or to add to the already existing flora in your home? Ikea has you covered with a veritable smorgasbord of plant life. Cacti, succulents, aloe plants,  ficus, orchids, and many more are all available at very reasonable prices. For those not so good at caring for plants, they also offer silk versions which are impossible to kill and actually look pretty real!
